Darksiders Xbox360 review

Darksiders Review (90% completed)

This game was fun and frustrating at time, but it achieved some things right.

The graphics are really good. The characters are some of the best designs I have seen around. The destruction areas are totally believable. However some crucial places suffers from FPS, most notably the Stygian fight, making the boss way more harder then it should be.

The sounds are simply amazing! From the soundtrack to the amazing voices, everything is perfect.

The gameplay is a mix of button mashing and puzzle/platform. The ending moves (In combats) are limited to a simple one button action, and it's the only time you get to intervene into a cutscene. I found it limited. You get to fight a lot in this game…with different weapons. I never felt any changes when the weapon level up, and so you get the impression your main weapon is just barely doing the job during all the game. At 3/4 of the game you are given a weak gun…the game could have been better without it. During all the game you have a demon that sell you stuff. He is everywhere except one level – The Canopy. Once you enter, you can't go back. I stop the game at that moment because I didn't have any health refill to beat the boss. I must command the designer on their excellent decision in that level, to not put the demon seller. The main boss in Canopy is really more annoying then fun. You ask yourself if you are doing something to her with your weak blade. I didn't enjoy The Canopy level, too intricate for nothing and a bad main boss. It's hard to perceive the game well, when it ends that way. The game start slowly with just fighting, then gradually introduce puzzles.

The story was really something worthed. I just wish I could have the human perspective. Overall, I did enjoy the game until the 3/4 of it. 90% of the game = around 10 hours. The game is excellent and good quality value but by the end, you get some bad design choices and some fps issues. I still prefer to play a Zelda or GOW game…maybe because more depth is applied to their respective gameplay.

(7.5/10)
